MASSAGE THERAPY

Osteopathy Manual Therapy

Osteopathy is a manual form of therapy which emphasizes the relationship between the structure and function of the human body. This therapy follows a belief in the body’s ability to self-heal and self-regulate, which is why manual osteopathic practitioners do not see themselves as healers, but instead as facilitators to health.

First introduced by founder A.T. Stills in the 1870s, osteopathy is a science, a philosophy, and a practice. The Canadian Academy of Osteopathy teaches a Manual Osteopathy program, and our graduates are certified Masters in Practice of Osteopathic Manual Sciences (M.OMSc’s).

What Does an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner Do?
Osteopathy focuses on facilitating the health of joints and muscles through non-invasive manual therapy, helping to strengthen the framework of the body, and acts as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medicine.

By working with the interrelated systems and functions of the human body, manual osteopathic therapy can return the body to normal health so it can self-heal and self-regulate.

Orthopedic Massage

ORTHOPEDIC MASSAGE (OM) describes a comprehensive system, rather than a single technique, that involves therapeutic assessment, manipulation and movement of soft tissues to resolve pain and dysfunction. OM’s focus is restoring physical movement and structural balance throughout the body for both prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain.

OM’s multidisciplinary approach looks to resolve the origin of the pain from injuries stemming from sports, trauma, a chronic condition, injury due to poor work ergonomics, scar tissue from surgery or postural imbalances that cause exacerbated pain through daily activities.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that’s mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as strains and sports injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury and reduce tension in muscle and tissue.

It may also promote faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation.

Relaxation Massage

Relaxation massage is a therapeutic approach designed to calm both the body and mind, providing a much-needed reset for anyone dealing with physical or mental stress. This technique uses gentle, flowing strokes to soothe tense muscles, improve blood circulation, and release built-up tension. Unlike more targeted therapies like deep tissue massage or sports massage, relaxation massage emphasizes promoting overall calmness and reducing stress, making it an ideal choice for anyone seeking a holistic recovery experience.

For active individuals, the benefits go beyond relaxation. This technique addresses muscle fatigue by increasing oxygen flow and supporting the removal of toxins like lactic acid that accumulate during intense physical activity. It also enhances mobility by loosening tight muscles and improving flexibility, helping to prevent injuries and maintain peak performance. Whether you’ve just finished a strenuous workout, participated in a competitive event, or simply endured a long day of physical exertion, relaxation massage can play a pivotal role in speeding up recovery and keeping your body in optimal condition.
